Dr Anthony White is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne. He is the author of Lucio Fontana: Between Avant-Garde and Kitsch (MIT Press, 2011), and has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals including October, Grey Room, Papers of Surrealism, Reading Room, The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Art, Art Bulletin of Victoria and Emaj. From 2000 - 2002 he was Curator of International Painting and Sculpture at the National Gallery of Australia where he curated several major exhibitions of American art including Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism (2001) and Jackson Pollock’s Blue Poles (2002). In 2005 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Humanities Research Centre at The Australian National University and in 2006 was appointed Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. He has been the recipient of many scholarships, awards and grants, most recently an Australian Research Council Linkage Project Grant for 2007- 2009.
